The company is expanding its Viya platform with managed assistants, agent tools, industry agents and the SAS AI Navigator product. The core message is direct. AI governance is no longer only a discipline for legal and control departments. It is becoming a prerequisite for allowing more autonomous systems into production. Governance as a condition for growth Reggie Townsend, SAS vice president for AI Ethics, Governance and Social Impact, said AI governance is too often understood as a compliance measure, although it is in fact a driver of growth. That statement captures the change boards and chief financial officers need to understand. Without traceability, rules and accountability, an AI agent in a company will be more of a risk than a tool for revenue growth. In regulated industries, agents will not reach live data or decision-making processes without these controls. The agent market is maturing The business impact is twofold. SAS is selling companies infrastructure for safer automation of decisions, analytics and service processes. At the same time, it confirms that the agent market is maturing. Companies no longer want only to test models in pilots; they need to integrate them into controlled processes. In banking, insurance, pharmaceuticals or energy, the ability to prove who gave an agent permission, which data it used and why it took a specific step will determine whether a project passes internal audit. The legal impact concerns mainly sectors with regulated data. If an agent recommends a business decision, evaluates a customer request or prepares material for internal control, the company must be able to explain the process afterwards. This is important under the EU AI Act, personal data protection rules and sector-specific financial regulations.
