AI Monitoring Becomes Insurance Against Costly Errors

In a report published on 12 May 2026, Gartner described a shift that will be critical for enterprise AI deployment. It is no longer enough to launch a model, connect it to internal data and monitor ordinary application availability. Companies will have to measure whether the model behaves differently from the time of deployment, whether it starts producing biased outputs and whether its decisions can be explained afterwards. According to Gartner, by 2028, 40 percent of organizations deploying AI will use specialized tools for this type of monitoring. This matters especially for banks, insurers, healthcare providers, industrial companies and public institutions. In these sectors, an AI error is no longer just an inaccurate answer in an office tool. It may mean a wrong credit decision, a delayed response to a cyberattack or a breach of personal data rules. The business impact is clear. The more companies base decisions on AI, the less they can rely on traditional IT operations management. Conventional software monitoring has focused mainly on outages, response times and infrastructure load. AI adds another layer of risk: changing model behavior, hidden reasoning, biased data and declining accuracy over time. The regulatory dimension will grow, especially in Europe. The EU AI Act places emphasis on risk management, documentation, human oversight and data quality for high-risk systems. A company that cannot explain how an AI system reached a decision exposes itself not only to a technical problem, but also to a legal one. The conclusion for corporate leaders is simple. AI projects should not be assessed only by the speed of deployment. Budgets must include accuracy measurement, drift control, output audits and clear accountability from the start. Without this, artificial intelligence becomes an operational debt that is difficult to manage.
