Germany Secures Permanent Control Over Rosneft’s Domestic Operations

The European Commission has approved a permanent arrangement allowing the German federal government to assume control of Rosneft’s German operations, ending the need for temporary trusteeships that have been in place since 2022. According to the decision, the takeover by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy was found to raise no competition law concerns, clearing the way for a new, indefinite trusteeship under German law. This formal approval solidifies Berlin’s authority over the subsidiaries of the Russian state oil company within Germany.
