Creative

Creative or innovation oriented teams focus on generating new ideas, products and solutions. They are typical of start-ups, marketing departments, development labs and other creative environments. Members of such teams are usually open to change, enjoy experimenting and seek original approaches.

How to lead a creative team: Encourage open communication, hold frequent meetings at team level and discuss ongoing matters and challenges. Allow subordinates to experiment, and avoid criticism when an idea does not succeed.

Supportive

This type of team is characterised by high cohesion, an emphasis on collaboration and mutual support. Examples include HR departments, customer service, internal IT support or legal teams. Empathy and team spirit are key here.

How to lead a support team: Develop an effective communication system, both external and internal. Provide emotional support to employees, take an interest in their wellbeing and don't underestimate the importance of professional growth and training for team members.

Agile

Agile or adaptive teams operate in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment. They are responsible for rapid development, responding to stimuli and working on projects where speed is essential. These teams often include development and IT departments.

How to lead an agile team: Implement the principles of agile project and team management. Hold frequent and brief team-level meetings, allow subordinates room for their own work style, trust their decisions, and create an environment with seamless communication where people are not afraid to approach others for help.
