Anthropic launches Claude Science for auditable research

Claude Science is another attempt to move AI from general chat into a specialized work environment. Anthropic describes it as an application for scientists that connects common research tools, creates auditable outputs and flexibly uses compute resources. The product is available in beta for Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise users on macOS and Linux. The practical problem is clear. Researchers move between PubMed, Jupyter, R, the terminal, databases, preprints and specialist models. Claude Science is meant to bring these resources together. The user interacts with a coordinating agent that has more than 60 prepared skills and connectors for genomics, single-cell analysis, proteomics, structural biology and cheminformatics. Auditability is central. Every figure, result or manuscript should carry a history of how it was created, including code, environment and messages. This distinguishes the tool from ordinary text generation. In science, a fast conclusion is not enough. The result must be verifiable and reproducible. The examples show the business direction. Manifold Bio used Claude Science to select targets for new experiments involving drugs aimed at specific tissues. Jérôme Lecoq of the Allen Institute built a template for multi-agent preparation of large review studies. Stephen Francis of UCSF said his group completed complex germline analyses in about one tenth of the previous time. Anthropic is also offering support for up to 50 AI for Science projects, each with credits of up to 30,000 dollars. This is not just a product announcement. It is an effort to capture scientific workflows, test them in practice and occupy the market for specialized AI research environments.
