Mistral OCR 4 targets enterprise documents and audit

Mistral OCR 4 addresses a less visible but costly part of enterprise AI: turning documents into a structure that search, agents and review processes can use. The new version returns more than text. It adds element bounding boxes, block type recognition such as headings, tables, equations or signatures, and confidence scores at page and word level. This matters for legal, financial, healthcare and industrial processes. If an AI agent works with an invoice, contract, technical report or archived document, it is not enough to know what the text says. The company needs to know where the information sits in the document, what role it has and how confident the system is. Mistral says the model supports 170 languages across ten language families, including specialized and underrepresented languages. According to the company, independent annotators preferred OCR 4 over tested competing systems in 72 percent of cases on average. The model scored 85.20 on OlmOCRBench and 93.07 on OmniDocBench. Pricing is clear. The API costs 4 dollars per thousand pages, batch processing costs 2 dollars per thousand pages and Document AI costs 5 dollars per thousand pages. For strict data protection requirements, dedicated enterprise deployment is available. This may matter in banking, government, healthcare and companies handling contracts and personal data. Mistral also warns that OCR 4 is not a decision-making system. It is not intended for medical diagnosis, legal advice, high-risk financial decisions or safety-critical systems. The model can prepare structured input for a later process, but responsibility for the decision remains with the organization. Terms: OCR converts document images into machine-readable text.
