Three methods that help visionaries come up with novel and effective ideas

Sometimes it may seem that visionary leaders simply pull interesting and original ideas out of their hat without any effort. But most of them actually use three effective methods to help them generate new ideas. Find out what these methods are and learn to use them too, even if only as a supplement to effective small team leadership.

Back to basics

This is a method of challenging established principles and conventional truths, the foundations of which were laid by Aristotle, although it is also used by modern philosophers or businessmen such as Elon Musk. The main idea behind this principle is taking a complex problem and breaking it down into its most elementary, simplest truths, then building a new idea on top of it. Innovative leaders who use this principle ask themselves: what are the fundamental principles behind a problem or concept? They proceed to cleanse these principles of all preconceptions, experiences and assumptions, then on this basis try to look at the whole issue from a fresh perspective.

Collective intelligence and creativity

Good and innovative leaders can effectively use the intelligence, knowledge and creativity of the collective around them. As a leader, if you are trying to come up with a solution to a problem or a new idea, few things will give you as much inspiration and stimulation as the people around you. You have two options. Firstly, you can either purposefully ask a specific group (for example, your team) to try to collectively come up with a solution, in which case you can call a meeting devoted to discussing the issue or doing some brainstorming. The other option is to get inspiration from others informally, which means simply by talking to people in your branch (about the issue or even general topics) and listening to what they have to say.

Artificial intelligence tools

Modern AI tools, such as ChatGPT, are still far from perfect. But one thing they do well is offering food for thought. Are you looking for inspiration, do you struggle to come up with fresh ideas, or are you facing a creative block? Try discussing the given topic with a chat tool which can generate different topics or points that you can base your thinking on. It is then up to you what you do with these hints.
